Religious / Heritage
The Old Mosque located in Downtown Ramallah is one of the oldest mosques in the city, dating back to the late Ottoman period, specifically to 1885, coinciding with the formation of the historic neighborhood. The mosque is distinguished by its traditional architectural style, built from the solid local stone characteristic of the Ramallah mountains. Over the decades, the mosque has undergone several renovations and expansions to accommodate the growing number of worshippers, while preserving its historical identity in its older section. It is located just a few meters from the old Greek Orthodox Church, reflecting a long-standing tradition of coexistence that has characterized Ramallah throughout the ages, where the call to prayer intertwines with the ringing of church bells in the alleys of the Old Town.
