Palestine does not currently have a national currency. The Israeli New Shekel (NIS) is the principal currency used for everyday transactions, while the Jordanian dinar (JOD) and US dollar (USD) are also used.
Money-exchange offices are widely available, and card payments are accepted by many businesses. Visitors should nevertheless keep some shekels in cash for taxis, small shops, markets and other everyday purchases.
Coins: 10 agorot, ½, 1, 2, 5 and 10 shekels
Banknotes: 20, 50, 100 and 200 shekels
Note: some shops accept Jordanian dinars, but it is best to pay in shekels. Paying in dinars can mean a poor exchange rate, and your change will be in shekels.
