Al-Irsal Street is the longest and most vital arteries in the city of Ramallah. It begins at Al-Manara Square and extends northward. The street was named after the wireless transmission station established by the British Mandate in 1936 to broadcast Palestinian radio (“This is Jerusalem”). It hosts important sovereign institutions, most notably the Muqata’a (the Palestinian Presidential headquarters) and the mausoleum of the late President Yasser Arafat, in addition to numerous ministries, government institutions, banks, and commercial centers. Due to its high location, visitors can enjoy panoramic views overlooking the surrounding areas of Ramallah’s.
