Sariyyet Ramallah al-Oula is one of the oldest and most important civic, scouting, and sports institutions in Palestine. It was founded in 1927, and since then it has played a central role in shaping the cultural and sports scene in the city of Ramallah. The Sariyya is famous for being one of the strongholds of Palestinian basketball, as it includes outdoor and indoor basketball courts (a closed hall) equipped to high specifications, and its teams (men and women) have won numerous local championships and represented Palestine in Arab and international forums. The Sariyya organizes the Ramallah International Festival for Contemporary Dance annually, which hosts troupes from various countries of the world, which placed Ramallah on the map of world art. The Sariyya owns folk arts (dabke) and contemporary dance troupes that have presented performances in many countries. It also includes a football field, a swimming pool, an advanced gym, meeting halls, and green spaces for family gatherings, as the Sariyya's garden and cafe are considered a favorite place for families to gather in the city, especially in the summer. The Sariyya adopts an annual membership system, but it opens its facilities (such as the pool and restaurant) to visitors with entry tickets or specific fees.
